Cherry Blossoms 2006
Washington D.C.
I came to visit Lan in Washington on April 1st and we took a look at the cherry trees donated by Japan in 1912 and now a major tourist attraction when in bloom. Learn more.

Before getting to the cherry blossums, we had to pass the magnolias outside on of the Smithsonian museums. Incidentally, Lan's shirt was a gift from a Pakastani woman who shared the apartment with the woman Lan has been sharing with.

Spike out of the cherry blossums. Read all about the Monument.

A little bit windy. Notice the waves.

No fence? How many tourists fall in every year? Although you would get cold and wet, it would provide a good story for years to come.

Enjoying the sunshine and the music at the Jefferson Memorial.

A concert with a view. The band was actually quite good.

Actually, the band wasn't that loud but the Jefferson Memorial wasn't exactly a whispering gallery that day.

Standing very still. He must get cold in winter.

The preamble to the Declaration of Independence opens with "We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, ...". Read all about it. It is one of history's great ironies that the man who wrote these words, Thomas Jefferson, was a slave owner.

I tend to spoil photos rather than enhance them as Lan does so I try to stay behind the camera rather than in front of it.

And a duck.

This was the queue merely to get into the station. We feared we might be waiting for a long, long time but in fact, the mass of humanity streamed steadily forward, through the station and a train came within just a few minutes and we were on our way. A great day.
